The Peter Kubaska Funeral Home was founded during The Great Depression in 1930. Peter knew very little English when he first arrived in the United States but went on to graduate from The New England Institute of Embalming located in Boston, MA in 1930. Peter then established and operated the single room funeral parlor at a storefront location on High Street in Woonsocket, RI.
In the late 1940’s Peter purchased real estate and moved the business to Harris Avenue in Woonsocket where he resided with his family until his death in 1975.
The archways that beautify the interior of the funeral home have become an icon of the building and are still in existence today.
In the late 1940’s Peter’s son Joseph Kubaska took interest in the family business and began studying to become a funeral director and embalmer while working second shift for a local rubber company. Joseph graduated from The N.E. Institute of Embalming in 1949 and took over the funeral home in the early 1950’s. Joseph expanded the funeral home in the 1960’s adding another parlor and a larger parking area. Joseph continued to operate the business until he retired in 1985 and died fourteen years later in 1998.
David Kubaska is the son of Joseph and is the Third Generation in the family business. David graduated from Woonsocket High School in 1972 and The New England Institute of Embalming in 1980. David took over the business after his father’s retirement in 1985 and continues the tradition of trusted service. David also continues to make enhancements to the funeral homes interior and exterior with his most recent renovations to the buildings face and entrance in 2008 including handicap accessibility. David is a dedicated husband to his wife Ann Marie and a loving father to his two sons Douglas and Peter. David’s other passions are music; he has been a musician since the age of seven and is still actively playing bass and drums, and spending free time with his family at their lake house in Pascoag.
