Viola B. Slowick

Viola Slowick was born Valeria Narkiewicz in Pawtucket in 1915. She grew up in the area, and worked in Quonset during World War II as a "Rosie the Riveter" defense worker. After the war, she married John A. Slowick in 1946, and they lived in Woonsocket until John died in 1999. John ran the Slowick Brothers Garage in Social for many years. They had two children. Their son John Jr. worked with his father at the garage and died in 1988. Their daughter Christina lives in Applegate, California, with her husband, Joe Offer. Viola's only grandson, Joshua Landry, graduated from college three days after she died. Viola lived with Christina's family in California from 2000 until her death, and took a big part in helping to raise Joshua.
Viola worked as a gift wrapper at McCarthy's Department Store in Woonsocket. She took great pride in her work, and didn't retire until she was 74 years old. She was one of 7 children of Joseph Narkiewicz and Valeria Lipniska. The only surviving member of Viola's generation is her sister, Agnes Jarzombek, of Lincoln. Many nieces, nephews, friends, and family members cherish the memory of her loving smile and twinkling eyes.


She returned to her beautiful birth name, Valeria, in the last few years of her life.Her Funeral wil be Friday at 9:30 A.M. from the Kubaska Funeral Home, 35 Harris Ave. Woonsocket with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 :00 A,M, in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, 174 Harris Ave. Woonsocket. Burial wil be in the parish cemetery. A Visitation hour will be Friday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. before the Funeral Mass. Relatives & Friends are invited.
