Velna Ann Pitts, age 76, formerly of Plympton, passed away peacefully at her home in RI on February 21st after a courageous battle with bladder cancer.  She was born on January 22, 1945 and was the youngest child of Henry and Ida “Mitzi” Bryant. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 38 years, Mike, in 2006. She was the loving mother of Felicia Dionne and her husband John of Smithfield, R.I., and YNC (ret) Bryant Pitts and his wife Christine of Menifee, CA. She was “Mammy” to Jessica Gouthro and Michaela Dionne of Smithfield, RI, and Kimmie Kreig of Charlton, MA, “Grandma” to Tanesha Crain and her husband Robert, Elijah Pitts of Menifee, CA and Daniel Gehlen of Conway, AR. She was “Gigi” to her two great granddaughters, Abigail and Jordan Crain of Menifee, CA. She also leaves behind Tina Zuniga and Christina Ladd, whom she considered “daughters of the heart,” and her beloved Exchange Families in Guadalajara, Mexico. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Edson Bryant, and is survived by her brother Bradford Bryant and his wife Virginia, of Plympton, and her brother-in-law, James Farrell Pitts and his wife, Eileen of Westport, MA. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, and friends.

Velna graduated from Silver Lake Regional High School in 1962 and attended UMass Amherst. Throughout her life she worked in business, starting her career at John Hancock Insurance Company and ending as an Assistant Branch Manager for Santander Bank. Her real passion though was for her family and her faith. She was active at the Plympton Congregational Church, serving on most Church committees, teaching Sunday School, and was also the Church School Superintendent. She attended the Tuesday Morning Group, many Bible Studies, belonged to the Beach Bunnies, and helped feed the homeless at Mainspring House Brockton through her work on Missions Committee. After moving to CA in 2010, Velna became equally active with the Menifee United Church of Christ. Velna loved her life, secure in the faith that God would watch over and lovingly care for her. She had a wonderful laugh and loved her friends and family with all her heart. She was grateful for all she had and always looked for ways to share her gifts with others.  She loved travelling with friends, enjoyed the beauty of nature and was a passionate New England Patriots fan.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to HopeHealth Hospice, 1085 North Main St. Providence, RI 02904.

Her Funeral Service can be viewed live streamed on Sunday, Feb. 28th, at 1:00 P.M. on her obituary at Kubaskafuneralhome.com.
