Theodore Garlacy Obituary

Theodore A. “Ted” Garlacy, 98, of Smithfield  formerly of Woonsocket, passed away peacefully, on Friday  minutes after his 98th birthday, at the Hope Health Hulitar Hospice Center, in Providence. He was the loving husband  of 64 years to the late Valerie (Luszcz) Garlacy. Born Nov. 18, 1923 in Holyoke, MA., he was the son of the late Adam & Rozalia (Kowalczyk) Garlacy.

Ted was a machine operator for the former Crosby Valve & Gauge Co. retiring in 1986. Before that he worked at the former U.S. Rubber Co.

He proudly served his country during WW II in the U.S. Army Signal Corps in the European Theater, attaining the rank of T/5 Cryptographer serving with the 926 Signal Battalion in England, France, Belgium & Germany.

An active member & communicant of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Woonsocket, he was a lector, collector, counter, usher, choir member and former officer of the parish Holy Name Society. He also belonged to the Fairmount Post #85, St. Joseph Group, and the St. Stephen Ministry Group. In his younger days he played in many baseball & bowling leagues in Woonsocket, he was a devoted Patriots & Red Sox fan.

He is survived by his son Theodore A. Garlacy Jr. and his wife Theresa, with whom he lived, of Smithfield, RI.  He was predeceased by his sisters, Anna Curran, Joan Piper, Louise Morelle & Helen Walsh, and brothers Alec & John Garlacy.

Relatives & Friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, (Nov. 24th) at 10:00 A.M. at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Harris Ave. Woonsocket. Burial with Military Honors will be in the parish cemetery, Blackstone, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Bryant Volleyball team in Ted’s memory using the following link.
