It is with deep sorrow and heartfelt remembrance that we announce the passing of Rita Provencal, a beloved mother, grandmother, (Memere), and friend, who passed away peacefully on February 24th, 2025 at the age of 94. Rita was a woman whose warmth, kindness and infectious joy touched the hearts of everyone she met.
Rita was born on March 23rd, 1930 in Woonsocket, RI. She dedicated her life to nurturing her family and spreading happiness wherever she went. As a mother, she was a guiding light, offering unconditional love, wisdom, and support to her children. Her greatest joy was being a grandmother, and her grandchildren were the center of her world. Rita’s love for them knew no bounds, and she cherished every moment spent with her family, creating memories that will live on for generations to come.
In addition to her love for music and dancing, Rita was a regular at her local bingo hall, where she shared countless hours of laughter and camaraderie with friends. The thrill of the game was a special joy for her and she often brought her signature sense of humor to every round. Rita’s ability to find joy in the small things and her generous spirit were qualities that endeared her to all who knew her.
Rita was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Ernest Provencal, her siblings, Albert, Celia, Delphis, Willie, Lea, Joseph, Ronald, Rose, Armand, Leo, Florence, and Annette, her children, Robert Provencal and Suzanne Provencal, her grandson Raymond Provencal and great grandson Aaron Joyal. She leaves behind her son Roland Provencal (Phyllis) and daughter Lorraine Dowdy (Larry), and her beloved grandchildren Robbie, Rebecca (Billy). Jesse (Amanda), Danny (Megan) and Eric (Melissa), also 16 great-grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren.
Rita’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those who loved her, and her spirit will continue to inspire us all to find joy in the little things, to dance without inhibition, and to sing with all our hearts. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Relatives and friends are invited to a Prayer Service in the chapel at St. Jean the Baptist Cemetery, 310 Wrentham Rd, Bellingham, MA 02019 on Friday, June 20th, 2025 at 11:30 AM.
