Rita M. (Cotugno) Cherkes, passed away peacefully, on Monday with her family by her side at the BriarCliffs Garden in Johnston. She was the loving wife to Joseph Cherkes of Cranston. Born, July 1, 1947 in Frankfort, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas & Hetty (Dupik) Cotugno. Rita was employed as a Payroll Analyst for The Lifespan Corp. in Providence before retiring. Besides her husband she leaves a sister Monika and her husband Arthur Malkoun of Johnston, a nephew Nicholas and his wife Melissa, and a great niece Adeline. Her Funeral will be Saturday at 9:00 A.M. from the Kubaska Funeral Home, 33 Harris Ave. Woonsocket with a Funeral Service at 10:00 A.M. at St. Michael’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 74 Harris Ave. Woonsocket Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery, Relatives & Friends are invited. Visitation hours are Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the Alzheimers Association of RI, or to Kindred Hospice Care, or to St. Michael’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
