Rev. Msgr. Michael W. Dziob, J.C.D., 94, pastor emeritus of St. Leo the Great Church in Pawtucket, died on November 27, 2012.
Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Michael and Antonina (Sabik) Dziob, he attended public and parochial schools in Woonsocket and Providence College in Providence. He completed studies for the priesthood at the American College in Louvain,
Belgium and at St. Mary Seminary in Baltimore, Maryland. He was ordained a priest on May 30, 1942 at the Cathedral of SS. Peter
and Paul in Providence by Bishop Francis P. Keough. After a short assignment as assistant pastor of St. Joseph's Church in
Central Falls, Father Dziob was sent to Catholic University of America in Washington to study Canon Law. In the fall of 1945, he was
appointed assistant at the Cathedral in Providence. In May, 1946, he returned to St. Joseph's Church, Central Falls as assistant pastor,
and in August 1947 became administrator of St. Hedwig Church in Providence. From January 1948 to 1973 he was chaplain at the
Franciscan Missionaries of Mary in North Providence while working at the Matrimonial Tribunal as Secretary, Vice-Officialis and
Officialis. In 1959 he was appointed Papal Chamberlain and in 1967, a Domestic Prelate with the title of Reverend Monsignor. In January 1973 he became pastor of St. Leo the Great Church in Pawtucket and served there until his retirement in June 1993 as pastor emeritus
After his retirement, Msgr. Dziob took up residence at St. John Vianney Residence in Providence and continued to help out in various
parishes He was predeceased by his siblings, Dr. John S. Dziob, Sr. Mary Ardeen, O.S.F., Dr. Joseph M. Dziob, Francis E. Dziob, Antonina A. Dziob, Cecilia A. Kubaska and two other sisters who died in infancy and childhood. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.. Relatives & Friends are invited to a Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial for the repose of his soul which will be celebrated
on Saturday, Dec. 1st at 11:00 A.M. at the Cathedral of STS. Peter and Paul, 1 Cathedral Square in Providence. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Blackstone, MA. Visitation hours will be Friday Nov. 30th, from 3:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Kubaska Funeral Home,
33-35 Harris Ave. Woonsocket.
