It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ovila J. Lafleur, 85, who left this world surrounded by love on October 8th, 2023, at his home in Woonsocket. Born on September 14th, Ovila was the cherished son of late Alfred and Blanche Lafleur.
Ovila led a life filled with love, laughter, and community service. He dedicated his years to the Woonsocket school department and New York Lunch, where he brightened the days of everyone he met. Ovila's legacy lives on in the hearts of his children, Jennifer Lafleur of Woonsocket, Michael Lafleur of Dexter, Maine, and Kelly Alvarez and son-in-law Pedro of Woonsocket. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his former wife, Denise Lafleur of Woonsocket.
He is fondly remembered by his surviving siblings: his brother Walter Lafleur and partner George, his sister Irene Houle, and sister Vivian Carpentier and her husband Mark of Burrillville. Ovila is preceded in death by his brothers Gerald, Raymond, and Raoul Lafleur, as well as his sisters Vivian Chamberland and Rita Cote.
Ovila's laughter was contagious, his smile was infectious, and his generosity knew no bounds. He was a vibrant member of the community, finding joy in the camaraderie of Circle Laurier and The Woonsocket Elks. A lover of music and dance, he found solace in the rhythm of life.
But above all, Ovila was a family man. His love for his children and grandchildren was immeasurable. He eagerly anticipated moments spent with them, cherishing every laugh and smile shared. Ovila had a special talent for making everyone around him feel valued and loved. His sense of humor was boundless, and his silly songs brought joy to all who heard them. He had an innate ability to brighten even the darkest of days.
Ovila J Lafleur was more than a name; he was a beacon of light in the lives of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched. As we mourn his passing, let us also celebrate the remarkable life of a man who taught us the power of love, laughter, and kindness. May his spirit continue to inspire us all, reminding us to cherish every moment and to share our light with the world, just as Ovila did every day of his life.
Relatives & friends are invited to visitation hours on Saturday October 14th from 4:00pm to 6:00pm followed by a prayer service at 6:00pm at the Kubaska Funeral Home, 33 Harris Ave Woonsocket, RI 02895. Burial will be private.
