Olga Santos, a loving wife and dedicated health care professional from Attleboro, MA, died at age 80 on August 1 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital after a recent fall. She was the widow of Melvin P. Santos and the mother of infant twins, Matthew and Mark, who passed at birth.
Born June 25, 1945 in Eger (Sudetenland), Czechoslovakia, the daughter of the late Andrew and Maria Kun came to this country in 1949, settling in Woonsocket. A 1963 graduate of Blackstone High School, she earned her registered nurse designation in 1966 at Roger Williams Nursing School in Providence.
Professionally, Olga served many years as the head nurse in the recovery room unit at Fogarty Memorial Hospital in North Smithfield.
Active in church life, she served as a church trustee and president of the women’s sodality at St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Woonsocket.
She was also a member of the Ukrainian National Association, Branch 206 in Woonsocket.
Olga’s interests included a love for animals and her Ukrainian heritage, vacationing on Cape Cod, and watching movie classics and crime detective shows.
Following her husband’s passing in 2001, Olga established a scholarship fund in his honor through the Attleboro Scholarship Society for college-bound high school students.
Olga is survived by brothers John (& Paula) Kun of Oak Hill, VA and Michael (& Cathie) Kun of Cumberland, RI; nieces Stephanie Guerrieri, Jennifer Vales, Julie Kun and nephew Andrew Kun; a great niece Pepper Guerrieri and great nephews Parker Guerrieri and Dylan Vales.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral divine liturgy on Friday, August 8 at 9:00 AM at St Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church. 394 Blackstone St. Woonsocket, RI 02895. Burial and reception to follow.
