Mildred Cherkes

Mildred (Petrowicz) Cherkes, 88, formerly of Cumberland, died Sunday at the Village at Waterman Lake. She was the wife of the late Joseph Cherkes. Born: March 31, 1921 in Woonsocket, daughter of the late Marion & Amelia (Dzmudsky) Petrowicz.

She resided in Cumberland for many years before moving to Smithfield. Mildred was employed as a jewelry inspector for the C. Ray Randall Co. in No. Attleboro for many years retiring in 1982. She was a member of the Y.W.C.A. Apres-Mida Club, The Cranston Senior Citizens and was a member of St. Michael's Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Woonsocket. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family.

She leaves a son: Joseph K. and his wife Rita Cherkes of Cranston, RI, one brother Marion Petrowicz of Blackstone, MA. One sister: Joan Irza of Norton, MA, and several nephews and nieces. She was the sister of the late Stasia Jalowy, John and James Petrowicz.

Her funeral will be held Thursday at 9:00 A.M. from the Kubaska Funeral Home, 33 Harris Ave. Woonsocket, with a Funeral Service at 10:00 A.M. in St. Michael's Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 74 Harris Ave. Woonsocket. Burial will be in The Parish Cemetery. Relatives and Friends are invited. Visitation hours are Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M.
