With a heavy heart we share the news that Janina (Beldyga) Szewczyk, formerly of Cumberland, RI passed away peacefully at Life Care Center of Attleboro on December 24, 2025. She was the wife for 44 years of the late Jozef Szewczyk. She was pre-deceased by her sisters Czeslawa Kowal and Helena Pipska.
Born in Nisko, Poland on May 6, 1929 she was the daughter of Stanislaw and Bronislawa Beldyga. She came to America in 1959 with her husband and four children, settling in Cumberland for almost 65 years. Janina worked night shift to support her family at Woonsocket Textiles in Manville, then at Puritan Aerosol in Ashton before landing a job at A.T. Cross Pens in Lincoln, RI. She retired from there in 1995 and continued helping her family by babysitting grandchildren.
She loved her cat Michu. She enjoyed traveling and drove cross-country in 1978 with her daughter Mary. She visited family and friends in California, Florida and Minnesota as well as in Poland. Janina also made a pilgrimage with her husband to the Holyland. She loved vegetable gardening and tending to the many flowers and bushes around her home.
Janina was a communicant of St Stanislaus Kostka Church in Woonsocket where she was a member of the Ladies Rosary Sodality. She participated for many years helping with the annual church Flea Market and Christmas Bazaar. Janina leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to her Catholic faith and her family with whom she enjoyed many happy occasions.
She is survived by her four children, Mary Mihalek and husband Thomas of Attleboro, Ma, Stanley Szewczyk and wife Annie of Pasadena, Ca, Andrew Szewczyk of Brooklyn Park, Mn, and Terry Juhr and husband Bill of North Smithfield, RI. Also she leaves behind 6 great-grandchildren, Alexandra and Jonathan Avril, Nicholas and Evan Manocchia, and Ethan and Lucas DaRosa.
Janina meant so much to us. Her kindness, warmth and the memories we shared will stay in our hearts forever. While this is deeply painful, we take comfort in knowing she is now at peace. More information will be shared when arrangements are finalized. Funeral Service to be held at a later date.
