James Charles Winn II passed away on August 29, 2023. Beloved husband and father, he graduated from the College of the Holy Cross and received his Masters in Curriculum at Rhode Island College and his Masters in Library Science at University of Rhode Island. He spent his career working as a librarian at Bridgham Middle School in Providence, RI.
James was dedicated to his Faith. His Roman Catholic beliefs were a source of support and comfort to him throughout his life. He was a Lecter, a Eucharistic Minister, a man of sincere religious conviction, who spent much time in prayer and contemplation.
He was also a man of varied artistic and literary pursuits. From his early works in photography and oil painting, to his otherworldly sketches and pen and ink drawings, his creative talents knew no bounds. He could always be found with either a prayer book or a literary text in his hands. He spent time writing poetry and pieces of longer fiction, oftentimes fantasy with deeply moralistic themes grounded in his beliefs.
With the help of Donna, his wife of 42 years, James raised a beautiful, large family that surrounded him with love and friendship. He was quick with a joke or a quip. He loved wordplay. He was easily moved by the beautiful as well as the tragic in this world and he taught his family to appreciate the poetry that exists in the here and now while looking forward to the life to come.
He is survived by his loving wife, Donna (Roberts) Winn, of Woonsocket, RI; his six children: Christina M. Winn and her husband, Ian Mahoney; James C. Winn III and his wife, Jamie Cook; Jacqueline A. Winn; Justin J. Winn and his wife, Helene; John E. F. Winn; and Luke A. Winn and his wife, Hayley Paterson; 5 adoring grandchildren: Evelyn Frye, Liam Mahoney, Eleanor Mahoney, Roxanne Cookwinn and Savannah Cookwinn. His sister, Marcia McCaffery; his cousin, David Winn; his sisters-in-law, Barbara Armstrong and Lynn Jones and numerous nieces and nephews also survive him.
He is preceded into eternal life by his parents James C., Sr., and Ruth (Egan) Winn; his brothers, Donald and Neal Winn.
Relatives & Friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, (Sept. 5th)) at 10:00 A.M. at St. Charles Borromeo Church, corner of No. Main St & Daniels St. in Woonsocket, Burial will be in St. Charles Cemetery, Blackstone, MA. Visitation hours are respectfully omitted.
