Eleanor A. Kowalczyk, Blackstone's oldest resident at 101 years, passed away after a short period of declining health at the Beaumont Nursing Home in Northbridge, MA. with her loving family by her side. Born in Fall River, MA., she was the daughter of the late Albert & Suzanna (Tomkievicz) Skowron. Mrs. Kowalczyk was predeceased by her husband Alexander J. and her daughter Susan Mellor. She is also predeceased by her siblings Frank, Walter, Joseph, Lewis and John Skowron and Bertha Ryan. She is survived by her son Alexander and his wife Mary Kay of Blackstone, MA., and her daughter Eleanor M. Kowalczyk of Richfield, MN. She also leaves her grandsons Stephen A. Kowalczyk and his wife Lesley of Adams, MA. and Alan J. Kowalczyk and his wife Brenda of Pawtucket, RI. She also leaves her beloved great-grandchildren Julia, Alexander and Marek. For most of her life she was involved in civic activities in town. She was the president of the Polish American Women's Auxiliary of Blackstone, the Blackstone Senior Citizens Association and drove the senior van. She was the founder of the Homemakers Club and was a Girl Scout leader for a number of years. A graveside service will be held at St. Paul's Cemetery in Blackstone, MA., at 11:30 A.M. on Saturday, June 27th. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
